ENVIRONMENT CSI

KEEPING OUR ENVIRONMENT CLEAN

VENUE: PASIR RIS BEACH

You would have heard about the dirty beaches of Singapore. Pasir Ris beach is one of them. What is causing Pasir Ris beach to be one of the dirtiest beaches in Singapore?

Apparently authorities have found some bacteria contamination of sea water at Pasir Ris beach that is caused by litter. While most beach visitors would not bat an eyelid at rubbish left behind by beachgoers or barbecue pit users, this dirty beach at Pasir Ris park's beachside waters is a little more serious than plain litter.

Visitors are warned that the water is unclean and unsafe. Water sports and water-based activities are highly discouraged for fear of picking up skin or intestinal illness from touching/ accidental drinking of contaminated sea water. Otherwise, the beachgoers and water sports lovers would have to go to other beaches to have their activities done.

There are a few steps that i would recommend to overturn this situation :
  • have more than ample recycling or rubbish bins to be placed at many parts of the beaches especially at the places where litter are most found.
  • Recycle or reuse all the litter that we can find, especially plastic bottles and bags.
  • Be responsible in handling our own litter.
  • Not to leave any unwanted items lying around as these will be blown away to the sea.
But I must say, in keeping our environment clean and safe is our responsibility. Just remember the caption "REUSE, RECYCLE, REDUCE & REFUSE"
